REUSE OF TRIM FOAM
From the process of foam cutting, besides the good parts we want to obtain, also some quantity of trim foam gets out from the process. Most often the trim foam appears as foam strips, of different densities and colors. The degree of purity of the trim foam determines its quality. The less mixture, the purest.
Most of the time, focused on their specific activities, many producers prefer to sell the trim foam. The easiest way to sell the trim foam is to press it into bales, which can then be sold as such.
Some manufacturers reuse the trim foam in their own production process, in various applications such as: rebond production, cushion filling, filling material or as a filler for different applications.
TRIM FOAM SHREDDING
First step in making rebond foam is to get shredded foam flocks out of the trim foam. A knife shredding type machine, equipped with four rolls stationary knife and re-circulating cooling water system, allows a production with 50-80% increase comparing with normal type. The model can be used for shredding various materials, such as: PU, PE, PVC, EVA, TPR, TPE, PP, PE.
BALE PRESSING
Pressing the bales is done with the help of bale presses. They can be vertical or horizontal, depending on the pressing force of the machine and the materials to be pressed. Most often, vertical presses of 50-60 tf are used for pressing foam bales. The bales are pressed automatically, and at the end they are tied with wire. The average weight of the bales varies between 300-350 kg.
REBOND
The foam flakes coming from the shredder are blown into the mixing drum, where stirred and mixed with adhesive. The mixture is dropped down into a standard size mold, where it goes under hydraulic pressure to become rebond foam. The process can be performed without or with a steam system additionally. The final material resulted from the process can have densities up to 120 kg/m3.
MAKING OF CUSHIONS AND PILLOWS
After being shredded, the foam flocks can be used for making cushions and pillows. The filler can be a mixture of fiber, foam and feather, or any of these components only. Different configurations of the pillow & cushion production machines are available, depending on customer’s request and need. The simpler configuration of a line for filling cushions or toys should include a shredder, a mixer and a blower.
